Belgian footballer Kevin De Bruyne has signed a new contract with his club, Manchester City, worth a reported £300,000 a week. The new deal, which runs until 2025, sees the 28-year-old become the highest-paid player in the Premier League. De Bruyne has been a key player for City since joining from German side Wolfsburg in 2015, helping the club to win two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and four League Cups.

De Bruyne signed a six-year contract with Chelsea in January 2012. The contract is worth £35 million, with De Bruyne receiving £70,000 per week.

The Premier League has a salary cap of £400,000 per week for each club. This means that each team can only spend a maximum of £400,000 on wages for their players. The salary cap was introduced in the Premier League in 2010.

If De Bruyne had been willing to be patient, he could have become one of the best players in the world at Chelsea. However, he was not willing to wait for his turn and instead demanded regular playing time. This ultimately led to him being sold to Wolfsburg.
